| Semester 1 These early comics contain the characters but not the style of Dormant Life. The art is bad and the jokes are worse. There are some good parts, maybe one or two, if you really want to read these comics then go ahead. Semester 2 My excuse for the early comics is that my computer broke, I have no excuse for later work. This really is Dormant Life, at least, all the characters are there. Milo meets Samantha, Jim teaches squirrelly to smoke, the squirrels later revolt, etc. Honestly that's about as much plot development as this comic has. Semester 3 Summertime means one storyline. This semester revolves around Milo's family trip to Branson. Here Milo takes over as the comic's lead and Jim takes a literal backseat. Jim works in Carbondale as an ill advised councilor and Samantha continues college (junior). Eventually, all parties converge to sort of save the day. Semester 4 This is basically ther real comic, as side stories and characters (Bubba, the Hippies, Cops, etc) develop over lengthy plots, which are interjected by some random joke comics. Jim saves Milo then saves Halloween. The semester ends with random comics the usual dorm humor, maybe a little funnier than previous attempts. Semester 5 Now the comic avoids school almost entirely. In fact, the first lengthy section is just Jim's trip back to school. Once he gets there, the comic just falls into absurdity. This was an odd time at school. The teachers were going on strike, and the country was going to war. For a while, the comic just tried to avoid or oddly confront the issues. Eventually, I resolved to go back to the characters. The semester ends with Milo and Samantha's relationship going to the next level. These are some of my favorite comics. Semester 6 These are my absolute favorite comics. The plot takes place in the future, telling stories about the past, which was really the present. Jim and Milo lose there kids and something like an adventure ensues. Semester 7 The comic should probably change titles here. They aren't in the dorms anymore because nobody lives in the dorms after Sophomore year. The Junior year starts off with a continuation of the summertime blues, but then settles into more of the same. Though, this is the vacation to Rockome Gardens. There's still more Milo and family, more Cindy drinking, more Jim being naked. Oh and more squirrels. Semester 8 This semester is all about tall tales. Big Fish had just come out and maybe my disappointment in that movie made me try for more outlandish stories. The plots get weirder, and weirder, until chickens take over the planet. Semester 9 Summer again, this time I practically gave up being funny and decided to go for pretty. The comics go from the desert, to the sea, to under the sea, to the sky, and into the belly of a whale. Semester 10 The comics starting to stretch. It's mostly Milo, he and Samantha are still on shaky ground, the status quo. Jim becomes an RA, and Cindy, well she develops about as much as the squirrels. This is the only semester with a spooktakular Halloween special! Semester 11 Just about done. It seemed like a good idea to change thing up, so after a few weeks of one-offs the comic changes style, and artists (not really). We set up a new site with multiple authors and pictures, it's still online but obviously not updated. When I got bored, the comic returned to normal and then concluded. |
